Beyoncé Leads MTV VMA Nominees

Loves, you know how I feel about award shows. Unless it’s the Oscars, I wouldn’t deign to make an appearance. Occasionally, I’ll make an exception for the Golden Globes, Grammys or Emmys – but only if someone sends me a car, only if the gift bag is fantastic and only if I’m seated amongst actual stars like Beyoncé (not with commoners like her agents or lawyers).

That said, I do love sitting at home with a bottle of imported bubbly and watching the MTV VMA’s. The horrible fashion choices! The probably-drunk presenters! The Miley Cyrus antics that I can laugh about fondly for the rest of the year. It really is like train wreck Christmas.

Therefore, I’m super happy to remind you that the MTV VMA’s are headed to a basic-cable enabled television near you on August 24, and to dish all about the nominations.

Queen B leads the nominations with eight, including Best Music Video and Best Collaboration (“Drunk in Love” with Jay-Z), Best Female Video (“Partition”), and Best Direction (“Pretty Hurts”). Relative newcomer Iggy Azalea also scored and impressive seven nominations, as did veteran Eminem (who is still trying to make bleached hair happen).

Other notable nominees include Pharrell Williams for “Happy” as Video of the Year, Best Pop, and Best Male; Miley Cyrus for “Wrecking Ball” as Video of the Year and Best Direction; and Lorde for “Royals” as Best Female and Best Rock.

What do you think of the nominations, dolls? Any major snubs, or majorly overrated videos?
