Rumors were swirling earlier this week after Rita Ora‘s performance for the Teen Choice Awards was abruptly cancelled on Sunday. All my spies were whispering that RO’s ex Calvin Harris was to blame. But how could he have such control over what the singer can and cannot do? It all comes back to the song she was set to perform: “I Will Never Let You Down.”
“For anybody who doesn’t understand how it works, he wrote and produced the song,” Rita explained to Ryan Seacrest. “So he has to approve anything TV-wise for anybody who doesn’t get it. And obviously he owns the rights to it and he didn’t approve the Teen Choice Awards.”
Rita, who Calvin broke up with earlier this year, admitted that she wasn’t surprised he nixed the performance, although she wished he would have let it be known sooner.
“I could have got told a few weeks earlier, you know,” she added. “That would have been nice. It was a last minute change, but you know what, it happens and we move on and move forward … It is what it is, man. You know, you write a song with somebody, and I guess there’s some stuff that comes with it … Everything happens for a reason, that’s how I look at it.”
Whose side are you on, Upper East Siders? Do you believe all is fair in love and breakups, or did Calvin really let her down this time?
