“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” daughter Melissa Rivers said in a statement. “She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.”

I’ll wait while you grab the tissues.

“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

Joan Rivers, who was born Joan Molinsky in Brooklyn in 1933, was rushed to Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital last Thursday after she stopped breathing during a surgery being performed on her vocal chords at a separate NYC clinic.

Joan was then reportedly placed in a medically induced coma, with Melissa informing fans that her mother was “resting comfortably and is with our family.”

My thoughts go out to you, Melissa and Cooper.

I am so sorry for your loss. The Two of you were two peas in a pod. Your Mom was a Genuis and so hysterical. My Mom Florence was a riot. We were so close also, the two of them will be performing together. When I was young I did a bit of comedy. I took a car wash brush and said that it was your Moms toothbrush. Once My Mom and I went to see her perform live. May your heartache lessen, God bless you and your Son. Everyone in heaven. Better be well dressed, or heaven help them.

I find myself fighting back tears, watching Joan on E was very eye opening and a nice look into her and her family’s life. I hope that time and memories help her family and friends heal.
