This nippy time of year, what to wear over your cocktail dress is always a conundrum. Rick Owens moto-jacket? A sleek DVF silver trench? A posh pashmina? Well Katy Perry seems to have found a brand new outerwear option: a cape.
That’s right minions, K.Per looked like a caped crusader at last night’s UNICEF Snowflake Ball in NYC, and I can’t quite decide how I feel about her ultra odd outfit:
The look was courtesy of Naeem Khan, and strangely, I rather like the cape–it’s the dress which I have my doubts about. A velvet halter dress isn’t easy for anyone to pull off, and the center seam makes her look shapeless, not to mention the hem is too long. But, her makeup is flawless and accentuates the look perfectly, as does her sleek unfussy hair.
Later in the eve KP changed into a silvery number to sing (off-key, BTW) “Roar,” “Firework,” and “Unconditionally,” which was apparently inspired by her UNICEF trip to Madagascar earlier this year.
What’s your take on the cape and dress ensemble? Is it a wintery win or seriously strange?
