Scene & Heard: Mila’s Weight War

“I believe in hard work. In self-drive and self-worth. I’m a huge foodie, I love food. But when people say, ‘I can’t lose weight’, no no no, you can. Your body can do everything and anything, you just have to want to do it.”Mila Kunis, who pulled a super slim down for her role in Black Swan, slams the whole “It’s a glandular issue” argument in the new issue of Glamour UK. Is Mila’s view from the top of the world a little distorted? Or is she refreshingly honest?

  1. I’d say both, I guess. Though it’s really easy to talk when you’ve got the money for a hollywood personal trainer who probably sat there and took food directly out of her hands to keep her at that anorexic look she had for that movie.

  2. I haven’t read the issue. However she is completely right! There are too many people who are too quick to quit when they don’t see results quick enough. You have to want to lose weight and be positive. Having a negative attitude will go against you and your goals in losing weight. Well in anything in life. I can honestly say that I used to always get frustrated about not being able to lose weight fast enough myself, but my mom would tell me my whole life things take time. And my whole life I have been heavy and she would always say “you are your own weight control”. Meaning I control what goes in my mouth no one else, I control my own life. Maybe Mila is thin and hasn’t struggled with being heavy, but with her career she always has cameras in her face so she knows being in shape and healthy is important.

  3. I understand what shes saying, and for a lot of people they just need to stick with it and put in a little effort. But i have been on every weight loss plan LA, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and nothing works. Currently I have been on WW for almost a year, and exercise at least an hour if not more a day (thats ALL I have time for.) And in the past year, I’ve struggled to lose 20lb and have not lost anything in a month despite increasing my work out. So yes its possible but for some people it is extremely extremely difficult even with an extreme diet and workout plan. And its not bc I’m too close to my expected weight. I’m looking to still lose 50-60lb. SO maybe its easier with a personal trainer and extra time but for every day people its not as easy as she makes it sound.

Unpopular opinion, I know. People who haven’t struggled with their weight since birth, don’t understand. Ive been dieting since 12yo trying to get to an ideal weight and it is the most frustrating battle. I’m 25 now and not much has changed in the past 13 years.

okay, end rant. It just annoys me when people say that, and forget that for some people its not so easy despite how much effort they put into it.

  4. Maybe she has got a point about hard work, but it has to be a lot easier to keep in shape if you’re wealthy enough to afford personal trainers, live-in chefs, nutritionists, personalised diet plans, private yoga classes, liposuction and god knows what else. Although maybe the knowledge that if you ‘dare’ to put on three pounds then wear a bikini, you will be in every weekly magazine with your backfat and bingo wings cruelly drawn attention to by red circles.

  5. I agree with most of you. There is an aspect of hard work, but when you have money and time its easier. When you can barely afford rent, a trainer is out of the option, and when your working every day with little rest time trying to take care of a house/chores its a lot harder than she knows. Most of my down time is spent cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, ect, things Mila probably doesn’t have to worry about on top of a full time job.

If she wants to donate a trainer to me, I’d be all about getting fit faster and working hard.

  6. @unpopularopinion The problem with what you’re doing is the “diet” portion. Don’t diet. Just eat healthy, and eat reasonable portions. Diets do absolutely nothing in the long term.

It is definitely easier to lose weight and stay healthy if you’re rich and have lots of time and it’s your JOB to be good looking, but it’s NEVER impossible. You don’t need a trainer or a gym membership to exercise. Go for a walk. You don’t NEED to eat junk food or fast food. Take an extra half hour before you go to bed to make a healthy lunch and snacks and then if you need to eat out in a time crunch, go get a salad or salmon, and pay attention to your eating habits, only eat until you’re satisfied, not when you’re stuffed, and only eat when you’re HUNGRY, not when you’re craving or because you’re bored/just feel like eating. It’s all about choices. Make the right ones and develop a healthy lifestyle and you’ll be much better off in the long run.

  7. My parents and sister struggle with weight magerly, i’m the only one who is thin and thats because I work for it. Finally I have got my family to work out and eat heathy with me and they are starting to lose weight now. Mila is right! It takes extremely hard work, but you will lose the weight if your determinded enough!

  8. My mom had serious weight issues, but then she went to eden life. I’m not sure if it is in other countries because I’m south african, but she literally lost the weight in like a month. Stick with any diet because often all you have to do is persevere. Another amazing and easy way is shape ups by skechers. They’re amazing!!!

  9. It’s a bunch of bull. I spent 2.5 years eating healthy food. Never anything with processed sugars or sodium. Working out 2 hours a day 6 days a week. Spent 9-10 hours a day on my feet working retail and I remained the same weight that I have been all through high school when I ate shit food all the time. It wasn’t until I started on thyroid medication for an underactive thyroid that I started losing weight.
