Coachella 2014: The Best Surprise Music Performances

As much as I hate to admit it, it does appear there was some worthwhile excitement in the sea of dirty fashion mistakes known as “Coachella.” On top of sightings of celebrities making absolutely heinous fashion choices, the annual music festival featured a slew of surprise performances. I still much preferred my weekend at the spa, but my minions did have fun spotting celebs and catching top concerts all weekend in Indio, CA.

Solange had the spotlight for a few moments, but then big sister Bey joined her to sing “Losing You.” The sisters performed a sweet dance, hugged afterward, and Solange didn’t even seem to mind that Beyonce totally stole her Coachella thunder. Solange is a better person than I will ever even try to be.

Not to be outdone by his wife, Jay-Z joined Nas during his set to perform “Where I’m From” and “Dead Presidents II.” In news almost as old as the two aging rappers, they used to be rivals. It’s doubtful that most of the attendees even care about remember this old rivalry and apparent reconciliation, but they definitely appeared thrilled about the bonus performance.

It was the best of 10-ish years ago when producer-turned-performer Pharrell Williams was joined by both Gwen Stefani, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Diddy and Busta Rhymes during his set. Gwen performed a throwback with “Hollaback Girl,” Nelly threw it back even farther with “Hot in Herre,” Snoop relived the glory days with “Drop it Like it’s Hot” and “Beautiful” and Busta Rhymes and Diddy got the crowd going with “Pass the Courvoisier.” And yes, Pharrell still wore that hat, but we’re going to stop paying it any mind in hopes that he’ll then he’ll grow tired of wearing it.

Justin Bieber took the stage with Chance The Rapper to perform “Confident.” Let’s be honest, though, the most interesting part of this appearance is that Ms. Selena Gomez was spotted watching him in the crowd. It looks like Selena was hanging out with more than just a couple of Jenners, after all…

I do hope that any of my minions who spent time in the Desert of Bad Decisions this weekend take a few days to wash off all the beer and sand (shudder!) and join civilization again. And, for the love of all that is good and holy, darlings, burn anything that you wore there. XOXO
