When my assistant said that Sarah Hyland actually looked good–and not like a 50-year-old recluse with a makeup addiction–at last night’s premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, obviously I didn’t believe her. For one, the only taste I can trust is my own and this particular minion was once spotted wearing closed-toe wedges (we had a long talk about that, trust). And two, Sarah has just made too many fashion mistakes in the past for me to believe that she managed to pull it together. Once bitten, twice shy, darlings.
But. When I saw Sarah’s pics for myself, I must admit I was stunned! SH managed to dazzle thanks to a super cute Sass & Bide bronze dress, sleek hair and unoffensive black heels. How did this happen?!
Love love love. The dress is both fun and yet formal, perfect for a young It Girl like Sarah. The ruffled back adds interest but not bulk and she wisely chooses satiny shoes that complement but don’t compete with the busy dress.
And I must point out that if you, like me, agree that when it comes to holiday soirees, red and green garments are so lame, and yet a LBD just doesn’t feel very festive. So why not take a cue from Sarah and opt for a burnished bronze gown. This hue flatters a variety of skin tones and is easily paired with black, white, cream or even silver.
Do you think that the Modern Family star outshone Jennifer Lawrence at her own premiere?
