Season 1, Episode 9: “Blair Waldorf Must Pie”

“Seeing this in high school inspired me to talk to my best friend of my eating disorder and to get help. Love GG!” – @blue_sunshine23

It’s Thanksgiving and the episode looks back on past and present. Last year, Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) had been drinking and S stepped out into the street and almost got hit by a cab. But Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) happened to be right there getting a pumpkin pie for his family dinner and saved Serena from what could have been a horrible accident.

Back at the Waldorf’s, Blair’s dad is there (this was before he leaves Eleanor for a man). Nate and Serena are guests, but Serena is so drunk, Nate takes her upstairs and the two get into a water fight in the bathroom. Blair comes in and gets in on the action.

During the present Thanksgiving, Serena and Blair are in a fight because S confronts B about kissing Chuck. The van der Woodsens are uninvited from dinner because of this tiff. So, Dan invites them to Brooklyn for dinner with his family. Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Rufus (Matt Settle) have had a history together but she doesn’t want the kids to know.

On the Upper East Side, Blair finds out that her mom has uninvited her dad. So upset, she takes a pie and eats the whole thing, then throws it up. She calls Serena for help who goes all the way to Blair’s apartment and brings her back to Dan’s. The “kids” all escape and go out to dinner. Lily reunites with her children at the restaurant and tells them about her past with Rufus and her groupie days. Blair goes home to find out that her father has served her mother with divorce papers and she’s having a hard time with that, especially over the holidays.

We also see that Nate Archibald‘s (Chace Crawford) dad has overdosed on pain killers. Nate pleads with him that he has to hang on for him.

With all of the craziness, it actually turns out to be a good Thanksgiving for most of the families… except for the Archibalds.
