Cute or Ew: Selena Gomez’s New Tattoo

When done tastefully, I think tattoos can be rather lovely and alluring. (And no, Miley, you’re not an example of “done tastefully.”) I’m inclined, then, to like Selena Gomez’s new inking: the phrase “love yourself first” written in Arabic script…

…but I don’t. And of course, I’m going to tell you why.

It’s not the tat itself I take issue with, it’s the reasoning behind it. I feel that one of the surest signs that someone’s life is out of control is when they get a girl power mantra printed on their body. Remember when Lindsay Lohan emblazoned Marilyn Monroe’s old quote, “I renew myself when I’m alone,” on her arm a few years ago? Lilo was hoping the tat would spark change within herself and lead to a life of sanity and dignity. I think we all know how that turned out.

I believe Sel is doing the same thing. She’s so dark and twisty about Justin Bieber and hopes that getting an empowering phrase on her body will conjure up the strength to dump him for good.

But sorry, lambs, I don’t think it works that way. I have a feeling that Sel will be showing off this tat and cuddling up to Jussy before you can say “laser removal.” I think it’s no coincidence that Sel went to Jussy’s tattoo artist, Bang Bang McCurdy, for her own ink: just another subtle way to stay connected to her troubled ex.

Still though, it is a rather classy inking and I like the sentiment behind it, I just hope this sentiment isn’t only skin deep for Selena…XOXO.

Actually, she introduced the tattoo artist to Justin. She got a tattoo there before he did.

  2. Farah Said:

It’s grammatically incorrect. “I love yourself first”

  3. Maya Said:

@Farah Nope, it’s not incorrect. “I love yourself first” would have been “نحب نفسك أولا”

  4. Suhayb Said:

Actually Farah it IS grammatically correct. I love yourself first is: Ana oohib nafsak Awalan
