After such a long dreadful winter and with Memorial Day upon us, it can be tempting to slather yourself in sun oil and roast outside like some bikini-clad turkey. But trust me when I say darlings that the sun is your biggest beauty enemy. You stop producing collagen when you’re 18, and collagen is what keeps you looking young and rosy-cheeked. Collagen is eaten by free radicals, and the sun makes free radicals multiply. So basically, tanning equals ugly.
But, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your beach time. I’ve found a few products that will keep your precious skin safe while still letting you frolic in the sunshine. Take a peek…
Glow-Boosting Shimmer Veil, Physician’s Formula, $15
I’d buy this for the bottle alone, but if you’re itching for a fun faux glow, this is perfect. One spritz showers you with a golden–not orange!–sheen and the smell is pure summer. J’adore.
Aknetrol, ZO Skin Health, $30
The myth that sun will dry out your acne is just that darlings–a myth. In reality you need a product formulated to combat spots and my go-to is Aknetrol, which helps control surface oils and contains benzoyl peroxide.
BB Cream SPF 21, Laura Geller, $34
BB creams abound these days but I love Laura Geller’s the most since it’s water resistant formula means you can wear it poolside and not end up turning the water beige. Plus the anti-oxidants counteract free radicals, and you know how nasty they can be…
Oil Free SPF 40+, glō•minerals, $30
Sporty, sun-seeking girls should scoop up this sunscreen since it’s packed with vitamin B5 (a free radical antidote) and super hydrator vitamin E. And since it’s a mineral formula you can rest assured that it won’t clog your pores. What’s the use of having pretty pale skin if it’s all broken out, no?
Clear Complexion Facial Tanner, Norvell, $17
Many anti-acne products can eat right through your facial self-tanner but not this one, which doubles as a daily moisturizer. It’s infused with salicylic acid which helps stop breakouts but the formula will still keep you bronzed and glowing. Brilliant!
Prevention+ Daily Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30, Image Skincare, $35
Some tinted moisturizers can either make you break out or are so sheer they’re useless. You won’t find either flaw with this product from Image Skincare which provides a healthy SPF but still gives you the coverage you’re looking for.
Rosewater Balancing Mist, Jurlique, $22
While the temperatures on the ground may be high, the air inside a plane can dry out your skin in as little as 20 minutes. Then, once you land and the heat hits you, your skin will over compensate and produce too much oil, thereby causing icky breakouts. Counteract this tragedy with a hydrating rose water spray. Just a few spritzes on the plane will keep your skin fresh and moisturized and the scent is almost better than flying private. Almost.
