First Listen: Taylor Swift’s “Sweeter Than Fiction”

taylor swiftReady for another song to be stuck in your head for days, darlings? We know that every time Taylor Swift comes out with a new tune, it overstays its welcome (kind of like an annoying/needy person who reminds me a lot of… oh, never mind…). Whether it’s good or bad, I know it’s going to be catchy, and that’s exactly the case with her latest song, “Sweeter Than Fiction.”

The upbeat pop track–which she wrote with Lena Dunham‘s fun. beau Jack Antonoff–is off of the soundtrack for the upcoming British biopic One Chance (which is about Britain’s Got Talent male version of Susan Boyle). It doesn’t quite sound like it belongs in this decade–more like the 80s or 90s, and I’m not sure it belongs with a biopic about an opera singer– more like a cheesy teen flick starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Rachel Leigh Cook. But alas, I’m already singing the words over and over and over again in my head. Damn you, T.Swizzle. You know I love you….

Darlings, check out the song and the lyrics below. Tell me what you think about it in the comments! XOXO

Lyrics:
Hit the ground, hit the ground, hit the ground (oh, oh)
Only sound, only sound that you hear is “no”
You never saw it coming
Except when you started running
And now you come undone (I, I, I)

Seen you fall, seen you crawl on you knees (eh, eh)
Seen you lost in a crowd, seen you colors fade
Wish I could make it better
Someday you won’t remember,
This pain you thought would last forever and ever

[Chorus]
There you’ll stand, ten feet tall
I will say, “I knew it all along”
Your eyes are wider than distance
This life is sweeter than fiction

Just a shot, just a shot in the dark (oh, oh)
All you got, all you got are your shattered hopes
They never saw it coming
You hit the ground running
And now you’re on to something
I, I, I say

What a sight, what a sight when the light came on
Put me right, threw me right when you put them front
And in this perfect weather
It’s like we don’t remember
The rain we thought would last forever and ever

[Chorus]
There you’ll stand, ten feet tall
I will say, “I knew it all along”
Your eyes are wider than distance
This life is sweeter than fiction

There you stand, next to me
All at once, the rest is history
Your eyes are wider than distance
This life is sweeter than fiction, fiction

[Bridge]
I’ll be one of the many saying
Look at you now, look at you now, now
I’ll be one of the many saying
You’ve made us proud, you’ve made us proud

I’ll be one of the many saying
Look at you now, look at you now, now
I’ll be one of the many saying
You’ve made us proud, you’ve made us proud, proud

And when they call your name
And they put your picture in a frame
You know that I’ll be there time and again
‘Cause I loved you when

When you hit the ground, hit the ground, hit the ground, oh oh
Only sound, only sound that you heard was “no”
Now in this perfect weather
It’s like we don’t remember
The rain we thought would last forever and ever

[Chorus]
There you stand, ten feet tall
I will say, “I knew it all along”
Your eyes are wider than distance
This life is sweeter than fiction

There you stand, next to me
All at once, the rest is history
Your eyes are wider than distance
This life is sweeter than fiction, fiction

The beginning of the chorus sounds like a song from the 90s or maybe 80s….definitely sounds like something I’ve heard before

  7. Lana Said:

Nothing new. But of course the final version of this song will sound better.
